What it means to geek

I’m going to start this out with an apology. This is probably the esensnce of drunk geek, I’m drunk and posting from my phone so this will probably be a very grammatically incorrect post.

Currently I’m about 13 beers deep, I’ve opened 15 but two were lost to unfortunate spilling accidents, may they rest in peace.

As I sit here, my.friend playing his guitar, his girlfriend watching vine videos I’m almost left to my.own thoughts as I absorb everything around me.

I started to think what it means to geek, and when you get down to the core, what is geek?

The dictionary defines it as
” 1. a digital-technology expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often used disparagingly by others).2. a person who has excessive enthusiasm for and some expertise about a specialized subject or activity: a foreign-film geek.3. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.”

But fuck that I think geek in its most simplistic form means passion. We as geeks are a passionate people and as Geofff has said everyone has a geek.

Ranging from your comic book fanatic to the guy who knows the batting average from every player on the 1965 Red Sox we’re all passionate loving people.

More so I feel that gone are the days where geek is a derogatory term used for the anti social.

Granted I think a majority of geeks may be introverts, however that doesn’t make us basement dwelling anti social trolls.

These days with our mass media being filled with things like honey boo boo and teen mom, it’s uplifting that people take a passionate interest in something.

I’ve heard and debated the subtext of comics and movies… has anyone debated the subtext of Jersey Shore?

Geek means passion and I will never apologize for being passionate about anything.

So thats it my drunk geek rant… see what I did there.
